The Lok Sabha has  approved the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill to prevent misuse of Surrogacy and made surrogacy law . In this, it is proposed to stop surrogacy related to commercial purpose in the country, to prevent misuse of surrogacy method and to ensure the happiness of children to childless couples.

The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha amidst uproar by members of some opposition parties, including the Congress. Replying to the discussion on the Bill, Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said, it is a historic bill. It has been brought in to curb commercial surrogacy and take into account the convenience of childless couples in families. The House then passed the bill by voice vote.

Opinion of all classes-parties: The minister said that all sections of the society and political parties have been of the opinion that commercial surrogacy should be cured. Many clinics across the country are hubs of commercial surrogacy. The passage of the bill will stop.

NRI couple included: Nadda said, NRI couple has also been included in the surrogacy bill. He said, the Supreme Court had also taken cognizance of the surrogacy case. After this we decided to bring this bill. The minister said, the mother has been defined in the Bill in terms of surrogacy. It has also been decided who can take this service.
